Howard B. Bluestein is a research meteorologist known for his mesoscale meteorology and severe weather research.[1] He is a major participant in the VORTEX projects. Dr. Bluestein received his Ph.D in 1976 from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is currently a professor of meteorology at the University of Oklahoma.
Bluestein is noted for his invention of "TOTO", a tornado measuring device very similar to "Dorothy" in Twister. When asked about how accurate the movie was, he said that they didn't try to get as near close to tornados as Bill and Jo did in the movies. But he also stated in an interview with the Weather Channel that he was glad that "Twister" inspired many young hunters to go on to the meteorology field.
